Research has proven that there is a very strong link between individuals having strong relationships and organizational success. The need for understanding EQ has increased due to the fact that in today’s workplace no one is an island. The flattening of organizations has increased the dependency of all employees on each other in order to be successful. To do that effectively requires the ability to influence and work well with cross functional teams. It is no longer enough, particularly for leaders, to be smart. Your IQ will determine the type of position you will attain, but your EQ is what will ultimately get you promoted long term.
Potential Issue: Do you notice that individuals in your organization have the smarts but struggle to be able to work together at times? Have some of your managers who got promoted due to their individual success been struggling to really connect with their teams? Do you have employees who are eager to get promoted into management, but are lacking the interpersonal skills to do so effectively?
